Caldwell Snyder Gallery: Spellbound - Douglas Schneider.
Comment by AB: Douglas Schneider blends abstract and representational elements in his dreamlike compositions composed of memories, free associations, references to significant events, and even a smattering of color theory. Every picture tells a story, and a rather elaborate one at that; just ask.

John Berggruen Gallery: The Time is Now.
Artists: Doug Aitken, Darren Almond, Diane Arbus, Richard Artschwager, Michael Craig-Martin, Hans Peter-Feldmann, Lee Friedlander, Philip Guston, Jasper Johns, Karen Kilimnik, Vera Lutter, Christian Marclay, Tom McKinley, Tin Ojeda, Richard Prince, Robert Rauschenberg, Linda Ridgway, Ugo Rondinone, James Rosenquist, Ed Ruscha, Stephen Shore, Taryn Simon, Lawrence Weiner.
Review by RWM: Time as muse. Some very famous artists assemble to remind us of this most puzzling dimension. Worth the time to stop by and marvel.
Comment by AB: Meaty and entertaining group exhibit themed on time, and no coincidence either that it opens concurrently with the opening for Christian Marclay's famed 24-hour video masterpiece, The Clock, at SFMOMA. A selection of Marclay's photographs is included in the show. Go see.

Dolby Chadwick Gallery: Suhas Bhujbal - Dialogues.
Comment by AB: Suhas Bhujbal conjures up appealingly stylized visions of dense inner city tenements, peaceful in feel and absent of inhabitants. Several figure paintings add to the mix.

Review by RWM: Baseball season has begun again. Fun to see all these homages to a game which has become a national pastime. Baseball goes on forever and can be decadent at times, but here all manner of perspectives are provided. It is interesting to see some players struggle, while others succeed. There is something noble about the game which can keep people's fists in their pockets rather than swinging towards one another. Healthy competition here rather than something worse. Nice gathering to celebrate the opening of the season for our World Champions. Great fun for the inner child.

Patricia Sweetow Gallery: Markus Linnenbrink.
Comment by AB: German artist Markus Linnenbrink works magic with colored resin in vibrant kaleidoscopic stripes, layered sculptural blocks, rainbow craters and lush undulating dimensional swirls. His work is pure precise perfection. Check it out.
