    Dolby Chadwick Gallery: Robert Kingston.

Review by Mark Gould: As you might expect, many artists don't by nature aspire to absolute renderings of beauty and perfection. Robert Kingston looks at his work as the piling on of mistakes and hesitations, using this as a journey of contemplation and discovery. The results are beautifully complex layers of gestures and markings-- making for oil paintings that are cultural explorations reminiscent of cave markings, iconography, semiotics and totemism.

Review by RWM: Fascinating abstract schemes provide something that you have never seen before. Bright images on white canvases heighten the mood. Unusual and unpredictable, but memorable.

Scott Richards Contemporary Art: Street View.

Artists: Davis Cone, Robert Gniewek, Don Jacot, Anthony Brunelli, Bertrand Meniel, Raphaella Spence, Nathan Walsh, Robert Cottingham, Drew Goings.

Review by RWM: Incredible representations. One needs to look closely to realize they are paintings. Easy to be fooled into thinking that they are photographs on canvas. Astounding and evocative scenes which convey the power of painting and the details of the photographic.

Comment by AB: Photorealism got it's git-go circa 1970. Here's a current state-of-the-art redux on that... and an admirable one. Go see.

Sandra Lee Gallery: Gregg Chadwick - The Time Between.

Review by RWM: Interesting work which commemorates the passing of time, the creativity of memory. Not clear what has transpired here and maybe one can leave some of it to the imagination. Soothing colors. Odd personages.

Gregory Lind Gallery: Amy Feldman - Raw Graces.

Comment by AB: I gotta hand it to Gregory Lind for his dogged devotion to impenetrable show statements, but describing Amy Feldman's art as "...drip and drivel, combining bluntness and muscularity with subtlety and droll confidence...", it's like not only do I have no idea what that means, but it's also got too many icky words in it. Kinda like the art though.

Brian Gross Fine Art: Teo González - Recent Paintings.

Comment by AB: You can scope 'em in close to appreciate their obsessively disciplined detail, or you can stand back and imagine you're laying in the grass on a balmy summer night, staring up at a cloudless moonless starlit sky.

Corden Potts Gallery: Bill Mattick - Gardens of LA / Mendota Water Project; Jennifer B. Hudson - Medic.

Comment by AB: Have you ever driven through the hinterlands of the southern Central Valley? If you haven't, Bill Mattick offers up a glimpse of what you've been missing. Unlike farmlands of the Midwest, it can at times be a pretty dismal place. Also on the dance card, Jennifer B. Hudson scripts up a room in New Mexico with a series of surreal scientific vignettes. Worth a visit.
