John Berggruen Gallery: Michael Gregory - Long Way Home; Summer Highlights.

Summer Highlights Artists: Helen Frankenthaler, Tony Cragg, Tom Friedman, Donald Judd, Anish Kapoor, Yayoi Kusama, Julian Lethbridge, Robert Mangold, Suzanne McClelland, Julie Mehretu, Sarah Morris, Sterling Ruby, Joel Shapiro.

Review by RWM: A house in the country, but these not needing repairs or a mortgage. Nice idealization and serenity in these magical golden hills. Somewhat like a ghost town, but not a haunting sense.

Comment by AB: In the upper floor gallery, peace and calm are epitomized in the idyllic country farmscapes of Michael Gregory. The lower gallery features an impressive array of examples by noted international artists. Worth seeing.

Haines Gallery: Yoshitomo Saito - Ethos in Bronze.

Review by RWM: Cool sculptures take on a variety of forms. Great spontaneity. Interesting pieces that can happily invade one's abode. No two are really the same.

Comment by AB: Fascinating and fanciful bronzes by Yoshitomo Saito marry abstraction with natural forms, plant life in particular. This one's a definite yes.

Robert Koch Gallery: Michael Wolf - Paris Abstract; Ljubodrag Andric - Visible Cities.

Comment by AB: Stunning compressions of Paris rooftops by Michael Wolf; not enough of them here to satisfy me. Give me more! In a similar abstract vein, Ljubodrag Andric photographs unidentifiable walls and the spaces immediately in front of them. Good show on both counts.

Dolby Chadwick Gallery: Terry St. John.

Review by RWM: Nice abstractions take on form and sometimes depth and dimension. This madness has method, and pleasing contrasts. Wonderful big show which takes you elsewhere in encounters you may not be fully prepared for. The world is a bit off here, but you can make it through despite some of the oddness.

    Hespe Gallery: Amberlee Rosolowich.

Review by RWM: Great trip to the zoo. Interesting exploration of our connection with the wild creatures we are supposed to share the planet with. Many of them were here first, long before there us and our zoos. Your day is never quite the same when you've seen a flamingo, giraffe, weevil, penguin or hippo... even if you are an adult. Now you can enjoy contact with them in a piece of art, and maybe at home. Great show that keeps us thinking about renewal and the encounters with wild creatures.

Sandra Lee Gallery: Revenants and Social Narratives - Gregg Chadwick and Evri Kwong.

Review by RWM: Fun exploration of relationships. Strange figures with odd noses done in a memorable style. Interesting couples that are distinctive and sophisticated. Even without a lot of detail in their facial features they have angst.
