John Berggruen Gallery: Four Decades - Drawings and Works on Paper.
Artists: Chuck Close, Willem de Kooning, Mark di Suvero, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Longo, Diana Al-Hadid, William Cordova, Sam Messenger, Peter Doig, Spencer Finch, Julie Mehretu, Ellsworth Kelly, Christopher Brown, Vija Celmins, George Condo, Simon Evans, Tom Friedman, Philip Guston, Anselm Kiefer, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen, Roxy Paine, Sigmar Polke, Martin Puryear, Ed Ruscha, Sean Scully, Rudolf Stingel, Fred Tomaselli.
Comment by AB: Drawings and works on paper by an all-star cast of major, mid-career and early career artists. All too often, it's the big bold obvious art that grabs all the attention, but as this show demonstrates, nothing beats the subtleties of the small stuff.

Dolby Chadwick Gallery: Katina Huston - Nothing Comes From Nothing.
Comment by AB: Katina Huston's ink on mylar artworks overlay skeletal elements with images of plant life and vibrant gridded patterns, and might be taken as commentaries on continuity. Purposeful and deliberate through and through, yet at the same time spontaneous and free-flowing, this is the best work I've seen by Huston. Worth a visit.

Scott Richards Contemporary Art: Everybody Needs a Hero!
Artists: Martin DiGirolamo, Chris Dorosz, Cheryl Kelley, Sharon Moody, Simon Monk, Valentin Popov, Mel Ramos, Suzy Smith.
Comment by AB: Need a superhero in your life? Stock up on 'em here. Highlights here include a vintage 1962 Mel Ramos and an amazingly real comic book trompe l'oeil by Sharon Moody. It's all good; see for yourself.

Sandra Lee Gallery: Jungsan Senim.
Comment by AB: Not surprisingly, Jungsan Senim was a former Korean monk. The disciplined, meticulous and meditative nature of his work is unmistakable. If you've ever wondered whether art and religion can overlap or even intersect, Senim's art will answer that fast. Stop on by.

Hespe Gallery: Wolfgang Bloch.
Comment by AB: Among his accomplishments, Wolfgang Bloch is a veteran surfer. You can tell from his moody seascapes that he's more than capable of nuancing climate, time of day and possibly also geographical location in his expansive open water depictions. He paints the skies, but the water itself is created from found weathered wooden planks, their grains transformed into undulations of the waves.
