Patricia Sweetow Gallery: Robyn Twomey - Medicine; Sarah Wagner with Jon Brumit and Christy Matson - Future Positive.
Comment by AB: Sarah Wagner, with assistance from Jon Brumit and Christy Matson, materializes an installation containing references to The Big Lebowski and psychic warfare, among other things. Also featured in Wagner's extravaganza is "an animal form immersed in flashes of projected and reflected light of questionable intent," whatever that might mean. Visitors to the gallery will also enjoy an effectively agendized documentary series of portraits of people smoking marijuana by Robyn Twomey, part of her continuing investigations into the progress of the medical aspects of the industry. An interesting mix; stop on by.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery: Manel Anoro - Recent Paintings.
Review by RWM: Nice to see these wonderful paintings of Mediterranean landscapes and towns by Manel Anoro. They are splendid to behold with their rich color schemes-- not quite relaxing, but rather vibrant and joyful instead. The fields, hills and towns bekon. Enjoy the sunlight and the plush atmospheric colors. Though exotic, through Anoro's paintings these places are no longer very far away.

Brian Gross Fine Art: Linda Fleming - Meanderings.
Comment by AB: The title of the show, Meanderings, pretty much sums the situation up. Be sure to check out the centerpiece, a convoluted yellow walk-through metal sculpture that'll have your eyeballs swiveling off in all directions at once.

Fraenkel Gallery: Sol Lewitt - Photographic Works, 1968-2004.
Comment by AB: Sol Lewitt's grids of related images involve viewers not only in contemplating specificts such as perspective, light, shadow and variation, but also serve as reminders that upon close comparative examination, even the most banal objects have merits worth considering. Also of note, Lewitt's astute application of cut-outs instantly transform ordinary aerial photographs into art.

Modernbook Gallery: 16@49.
Artists: Robert Adler, Christine Alicino, Susan Carnahan, Ronit Citri, Kirk Crippens, Raven Victoria Erebus, Maria Foley, Susan Hillyard, Mike James, Tony Maridakis, John Martin, Susan Neville, Grace Ensign Seidman, Terry Thompson, Jeanne VanderPloeg, Agneta Viklund.
Review and images by DeWitt Cheng: The sixteen photographers showing at 49 Geary are students in a Stanford Continuing Education class taught by photographer Brigitte Carnochan, who also serves as show curator along with Modernbook's Mark Pinsukanjana and Bryan Yedinak. The class is in professional practices, so a show at SF Art Central makes for a nice capstone project. Sixteen artist posses make for a huge crowd, resulting in lively scenes over the portfolios and print bins-- kind of a farmer's market for art.
