W Hotel: Smile - Lucky Rapp and Aximillion Helga Duson.

Review by RWM: Though minimalist in a way, the words on these mixed media artworks are smoothly presented and dazzling. Words, even when alone and without context, somehow seem blunt on these shellacked surfaces. They do however beg the question of what they mean to the viewer at the time. One can circumvent the interpretive process here, but it crops up again and again. Taken another way, the words presented may be part of an ideology to celebrate.

Review by RWM: You can be part of the scene here even if you don't ride a skateboard, even if you don't know anyone's name. There is angst but also fun to be had at this party on the walls.

Gallery 16: Rex Ray Holiday Studio Sale.

Comment by AB: Rex Ray clears a 200+ accumulation of surplus artworks representing some fifteen years of work out of his studio and priced at 40% off retail, with 10% of the proceeds going to Visual Aid. What does it all mean? Lines to get in the door, pushing, shoving, grabbing, grappling... and over 200 pieces sold. This dude has got himself a following (but we all knew that).

I get there late; it's all over but the settling of the dust. What's left? Not much.
