Dolby Chadwick Gallery: Stephen De Staebler.
Comment by AB: Larger than life bronzes created during the last two years of Stephen De Staebler's distinguished career, notable for the fact that to the very end, he was clearly on top of his game. Not too many artists can claim that. Impressive work; see for yourself.

Frey Norris Contemporary & Modern: Sean Cordeiro & Claire Healy - Par Avion.
Review by Neal Strickberger: OK. Take a Cessna, slice it into mailable sections, send it halfway around the world by airmail, then lay it out on the floor like a crash investigation. I so get it. Though it would have been more interesting had the aircraft actually ~been~ crashed.
Comment by AB: The price for the Cessna is in the vicinity of $70000 if I recall correctly, but the person I asked wasn't sure whether that includes shipping. The good news? The parts are pre-packaged and ready to go. Also available in the more affordable category are sheet metal "paper airplanes."

Market Street Gallery: Dancer - Mark Lightfoot.
Comment by AB: With meticulous, deliberate and intensive technique, Mark Lightfoot works sail cloth into dynamic motion-packed abstractions. Unusual. I kinda like 'em.

Fabric8 Gallery: A Plethora of Enchanted Delights.
Artists: Adrianna Bamber, Alice Koswara, Andy Stattmiller, Christopher de Leon, Daniel Fleres, Erik Otto, Evan Venegas, Jet Martinez, Johnny Siu, Julie West, Martin Hsu, Micah LeBrun, Monty, ninjagrl, Telopa, Ursula X Young.
Review by Neal Strickberger: Some really cool small and accessible work here at very reasonable prices, particularly the ceramic figures. These have a lifelike-creature quality with a bit of steampunk; you feel like they're your friends that hide under the bed and keep interesting secrets. The marionettes by Shadoe Delgado and figures by Calvin Ma also resonate. Other work in the show has detail coming from a physical and emotional darkness.

Truesilver Gallery: Noah Wilson - above me the day-blind stars.
Review by Neal Strickberger: Noah Wilson's "Day-Blind" photographs are at either end of of highlight or shadow spectrum combined with extreme grain, contrast and scale, forcing the viewer to actively seek details, and accentuating a spooky and surreal feel to natural scenes. The fiery eyed creatures in one image invoke a particularly intense foreboding.

Guerrero Gallery: December Group Show.
Artists: Sean McFarland, Andy Diaz Hope, Ted Pushinsky, Ben Venom, Ala Ebtekar, Devin Troy Strother, Frohawk TwoFeathers, Heidi Zumbrun, Alisha Kerlin, Glen Baldridge, Jeff Canham, Steve Powers, Paul Wackers, Aaron Noble, David Jien, Craig Costello, Richard Colman, Chris Duncan, Joseph Hart, Andrew Schoultz, Libby Black.
Comment by AB: The art's quality; the artist's are talented. Now what do you say we start theming it up? An unrelated array of random examples tends to dilute the import of the individual works. It's all good, though. You won't get a peep outta me on that.

The Shooting Gallery Gallery: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes - C215.
Comment by AB: I'm not sure I've got the read right here, but if it's what I'm thinking, smoke not only gets in your eyes, but also in your lungs, your gums, your tongue, your throat, your esophagus, your heart, your blood, your brain... and yes, it inevitably kills you. No romance here-- just a slow, ugly, bloody, breathless and exceptionally agonizing death. But it's really cool to puff when you're young and invincible, isn't it? Yes sir. It's a long game kiddies; always remember that.
