Caldwell Snyder Gallery: Fate, Choice & Desire - Douglas Schneider.
Review by Neal Strickberger: Sophisticated works by Douglas Schneider combine iconic Americana, painterly details, drawing and "what-if" propositions to create visual timelines.
Comment by AB: Douglas Schneider weaves a lifetime of personal recollections and memories into his ethereal dreamscape paintings.

Silverman Gallery: Hugh Scott-Douglas - A Cashed Cheque, a Canceled Stamp.
Review by Neal Strickberger: Alternating interplay between peaceful flowing shades of blue and pieces with regularly patterned cuts in the canvas.
Comment by AB: Nice work. Stop on by.

Needles & Pens: Kyle Ranson & Monica Canilao - The More We Wander.
Comment by AB: I completely blow it and show up the night before the opening (I gotta get my synapses retooled), but fortunately most of the art is already hung. Looks good to me. Check it out.

Gallery 60SIX: Leigh Barbier - Biospheres.
Comment by AB: Leigh Barbier whips up a batch of genuinely curious realities in both two and three dimensions. With a mind that gives birth to scenarios like this, I'm thinking she's probably pretty kicky at dinner parties.

Showplace Lobby, San Francisco Design Center, 2 and 101 Henry Adams Street, San Francisco, CA 94103: Outliers.
Artists: Victoria Vonderheyden, Dan Tu, Suzanne Taylor, Hyun Jai Shin, Hiroshi Sato, Jeane Salas, Alexander Philippe, Dan Luo, Morgana Jane, Jennifer Ewing, Daniel Chen, Kevin Moore.
Comment by AB: This show is notable for uniqueness of concept. Normally I don't cover student shows, but here at the Design Center, Kevin Moore's soon-to-be-graduating painting class from Academy of Art University puts their art up for sale in an auction setting with no minimum asking price, highest bid gets it (subject to the artist's approval). The artists organize and produce the entire show and now they get a chance let go of their art, perhaps at prices lower than they're comfortable with, but it's a great opportunity for them to contemplate and consider the true significance and value of art.

Cassel Gallery: American Made.
Artists: Prairie Prince, Richard Colman, Reyes, Steel, Amandalynn, Jurne, Andy Stattmiller, Chez, Chris Edmunds, Margaretta, Lucien Shapiro, Magdalena Gross, Luke Stewart and Tyler Maither.
Comment by AB: Combination art show and hat release party for the 1333 Minna Winter 2011 Collection. For a very reasonable $275, you get a designer chapeau in a limited edition all-wood silkscreened box plus a limited edition print-- an art & fashion three-fer that's hard to beat. The best news? Every bit of it is 100% made in America.
