Jenkins Johnson Gallery: Ben Aronson - Here and Now.
Comment by AB: Dynamic dramatic commanding cityscapes by Ben Aronson-- mainly New York, San Francisco and a smidge of LA, plus several motile figural works just to spice things up. Nothing's static here; action abounds. Worth a visit.

The McLoughlin Gallery: Deconstructing Hollywood - John Waguespack.
Comment by AB: Rather than Deconstructing Hollywood, this endeavor is really more like "Striating Hollywood." If you like stripes, you'll love this. Art doesn't get much stripier.

Artists: Jess, Wally Hedrick, Jay De Feo, Fred Martin, Bruce Conner, Lawrence Jordan, Wallace Berman, George Herms, Joan Brown, Manuel Neri, Leo Valledor, Carlos Villa, Roy De Forest, Clay Spohn, Eleanor Kent, Jerry Burchard, more.
Comment by AB: Blast-from-the-past eclectic survey of art, photography, ephemera and memorabilia direct from Beat Era San Francisco. Plenty to see here, especially the vintage gallery announcements and broadsides plus several cherry works of art and a Bruce Conner film (video). Recommended viewing.

RayKo Photo Gallery: Wisconsin Tavern League - Carl Corey; Urban Wilderness - Joseph O. Holmes.
Comment by AB: Carl Corey's atmospheric images of rural Wisconsin tavern interiors homage their prominence as social centers and meeting places in communities with few other options. Nicely done; check 'em out. Also on the docket, wistful snowscapes by Joseph O. Holmes romance the idyllic winter chill.

Mina Dresden Gallery: Chiharu Shiota.
Review by and images by Anneliese Vobis: Chiharu Shiota's large-scale installation creates prolific dialogs between art and architecture. The labor intensive, obsessive black cotton thread weaving leads us into a dreamlike performance where the artist sits on a bed and shows us her back. Her work reminds to Eva Hesse's nets of string installations from the 60s and Marina Abramovic's body-related performance pieces. Many questions arise around this thought-provoking presentation. Is this an expression of longing, angst or...?
