111 Minna Gallery: Climate Control - John Waguespack.
Review by RWM: Strange and unsettling, but things are changing and we may no longer be in the driver's seat like we had hoped. We might instead be backseat drivers. Beautiful colors make for an odd and disconcerting viewing experience.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery: Recent Paintings by Ross Penhall.
Comment by AB: Ross Penhall's lightly surreal landscapes are peaceful and idyllic enough, though his use of shadows adds mystery and perhaps even a wee bit of foreboding to the mix.

Corden Potts Gallery: Portfolio - Gallery Artists; Jane Fulton Alt - The Burn.
Photographers from group show: Sharon Beals, Susan Burnstine, Andrea Camuto, John Chervinsky, Michael Crouser, Susan Friedman, Stephen Galloway, Tom Hawkins, Jennifer B. Hudson, Isa Leshko, Bill Mattick, Beth Moon, David Pace, Michael Starkman, Peter Steinhauer, Takeshi Shikama, Larry K. Snider, Elisabeth Sunday, David Wolf.
Review by RWM: Fascination here with fire in the work of Jane Fulton Alt. The work is visual, but also personal and metaphorical. Great to realize what is at stake in these situations and to think about what roles we can take. Some will survive the burn; others will not or will be changed forever. Hard not to stop and contemplate. Such events can too easily become commonplace.

Spoke Art Gallery: The Moleskine Project III. Co-curated by Rodrigo Luff.
Comment by AB: Over 70 international artists conjure up an impressive array double-page artworks in Moleskine sketchbooks. You have to pick and choose, but good show overall and worth checking out.

Adobe Books & Arts Cooperative: The Ant and the Mushroom - A Parable. Curated by Katie Hood Morgan.
Artists: The Cyborgesses (Stephanie Mansolf and Jen Ontiveros), Stephanie Rohlfs, Amber Stucke, Hanhan Zhang.
Comment by AB: According to the expository, entire colonies of ants in certain jungle climates are being wiped out by disease, many choosing to end their lives by chowing down on toxic mushrooms. Using this phenomena as a jumping off point, these artists explore the stranger forces of nature, particularly from what appear to be spore and floral oriented perspectives. Some of the art's kinda nice so I ask for a price or two. Nobody has a clue. C'mon clowns; get it together. You've been at this art gig long enough.
Also on display is a selection of anonymously altered books, proceeds on the sale of which go to support the bookstore.
