Art Basel Miami Beach: Art Basel, Art Nova, Scope, Art Asia, Miami Project, Aqua, Art Public, Miami Design.
Review by Lynnore Goldfarb: During the week of December 6, 2012 every single store, mall, cafe, restaurant, art gallery, museum, hotel, club, bar & parking lot in Miami & Miami Beach seems to be part of Art Basel Miami, the most important art show in the United States.
I embark on my Art Basel journey Thursday afternoon in Wynwood, the art district of Miami, picking 2 out of the 5 very large art tents to check out. I start with Scope, which includes Art Asia & end with Miami Project, all of it taking 6 hours.
It isn't until Saturday late, after going to many parties, galleries, art fairs, concerts & the Aqua Hotel (which turns each room into a gallery space) that I realize Art Basel is only located in the Miami Beach convention Center. All of the other places I spent most of my time at were peripheral exhibitions capitalizing on the prestigious Art Basel event.
With that said, Miami & Miami Beach are the places to be during Art Basel, assuming you like looking at some of the best art created by some of the best artists while wearing your best summer clothes in the dead of winter.
