Meridian Gallery: Prajakti Jayavant - Fold. Color. Limn.
Comment by AB: I like to call art like that of Prajakti Jayavant on exhibit here "art you can make at home." Now I'm well aware that it's way more complicated than that, though I'm not necessarily clear on how. Perhaps more in the way of context, background, process photos, video, or other relevant details would help build out the gravity of the affair. One would hope there's a complex cognitive component as well (though that's never enough in and of itself to mollify me). Seeing the finished product alone is not automatically adequate in instances like this-- especially so many of them. You almost get the impression they're coming down an assembly line. Having said all that, they are appeasingly appealing.

Electric Works Gallery: McSweeney's McMullens - Artwork from Children's Books, Plus 1032 Illustrated Lunch Bags.
Artists: Jordan Crane, Matt Furie, Walter Green, Lisa Hanawalt, Ian Huebert, Jason Jägel, Amy Martin, Brian McMullen, Tucker Nichols, Scott Rideout, Scott Teplin, Robert Barnes.
Comment by AB: In the main gallery, a group show if original artwork from the first several books published by McSweeney's McMullens. In the side gallery, 1032 arted up school lunch bags by Robert Barnes, all drawn for his daughter. Now there's a father worth having. Also, for you artists who wonder about the effectiveness of working in series, here's a good example of the upside of that.

SOMArts Gallery: In The Red - Flaming Lotus Girls.
Review by RWM: The Flaming Lotus Girls light the sky and our insides with a display where fire is the medium of expression. Fascinating to see the structures they create in the desert that breathe flames. Fire can be inspiring and, though controlled, still run free in the skies above and in our psyches as well. The Burning Man community contains the flames which scorch regardless.
