California Institute of Integral Studies: The Torso Series - June Yong Lee.
Comment by AB: In one of the more perplexing exhibitions I've ever had the privilege to experience, June Yong Lee leaves the breasts and belly button geographically intact while horizontally extenuating the remainder of the torso. It's kinda like a digital skinning.

Center for Sex and Culture: People We Know - Jamil Hellu and Dorian Katz.
Comment by AB: Jamil Hellu photographs his friends; Dorian Katz draws hers. Nicely done on both counts.

Accident & Artifact: Consumption - Spy Emerson and Harry S. Robins.
Comment by AB: Spy Emerson's art and installation on the left; Harry S. Robins (aka Hal Robins aka Ask Dr. Hal) comic art and animation illustrations on the right. Notably atypical from start to finish.

Mission Comics & Art: Oh God Help Me - MariNaomi.
Comment by AB: MariNaomi is one dedicated comic artist and you can grasp the gravity of that here. Will it pay off? I think yes. She's been at it indefatigably since the late 90s. I'm a huge fan of industriousness.

Triple Base Gallery: The Optimist Gene - Bryson Gill; La Folie - Jason Benson & Joel Dean.
Comment by AB: Bryson Gill's clever semi-representational trompe l'oeil paintings have the potential to delight a broad audience. I realize that's a catastrophic prognosis in certain sectors of artland, to intimate that art could possibly have mass appeal, but hey-- these can. Meanwhile back in the Elipsis Space, Jason Benson and Joel Dean experiment with combination configurations of painting and sculpture.

Artists: Ali Naschke-Messing, Carrie Hott, Emily Jain Wilson, Grace Rosario Perkins, Jet Martinez, Kelly Ording, Liz Walsh, Pam Martin, Regina Clarkinia.
Comment by AB: Just happened to happen on this-- almost directly across the street from Triple Base Gallery. It's a bookstore up front and a gallery space in the back, tonight offering up an engaging group show.

The Popular Workshop: Remains In The End Times. Curated by Jesse Lee Stout.
Artists: Yoshi Sodeoka, Rosa Menkman, Daniel Menche, JK Keller, Cristopher Cichocki.
Comment by AB: Take your basic sixties psychedelic light show, ramp it up maybe 50 or 100 times, and you get this. Worth a trip.
