Fifty24SF Gallery: Runaways - Sage Vaughn.
Comment by AB: The runaways that Los Angeles artist Sage Vaughn paints are not the ones you might think, but rather those escaped parrots, parakeets and other pet birds you occasionally glimpse in the trees. But in considering these feathered versions, you think about the human ones as well. Also on display are butterfly compositions referencing the ephemeral nature of events. As if that's not enough, he frosts it all off with a rather uncomfortable baseball bat installation in the front window. Check it out.

Comment by AB: A contemporary perspective on the classic gentleman's study, so contemporary in fact, that I can barely begin to divine a connection between the two.

Comment by AB: Galeria de la Raza's 10th annual benefit fundraiser auction features an impressive array of art by numerous name practitioners, available in both live and silent auctions. Also on the docket-- organic tequila tasting (does it get any better?), a 70s disco Latin funk theme, and revelers galore.

Driftwood Salon: Liz Mamorsky - A 50 Year Retrospective.
Comment by AB: Liz Mamorsky's been at this art game for some five decades now and has no dearth of oeuvres to show for it-- you can sample pretty much all fifty years of 'em here. She paints, sculpts, draws, assembles and more. One of the Bay Area's more enterprising talents, and by that I mean figuring out how to make it as an artist entirely on her own terms and in her own unique style. Stop on by.
