Andrea Schwartz Gallery: Tom Bolles and Andrew Burgess.

Comment by AB: At first glance, the color field paintings of Tom Bolles look like straight abstractions, but if you look closely, you'll see that they're composed of binary grids-- 1's and 0's-- referencing the fundamental components our digital technological age. Multiple layers of paint imbue the works depth and translucence. The colorful geometrics of Andrew Burgess, meanwhile, lend themselves well to his architectural portrayals of the California good life. Check it out.

V Vorres Gallery: Vorágines - Patricio Moreno Toro.

Comment by AB: Impressive oversized abstracts by Patricio Moreno Toro make effective use of repetitive imagery to suggest progressions or story lines, almost like looking at the individual frames in old motion picture film footage. Good art; stop on by.

Comment by AB: In the righthand gallery, Nancy Newberry photographically discourses on life in small town Texas and in particular, a fascinating Texas-centric high school homecoming ritual called Mum where students create and wear enormous and elaborate corsages. In the lefthand gallery, thirty photographers show examples of their early early photographs and detail the histories of how they came to be. On the front wall, Sarah Christianson documents the North Dakota farmlands where she grew up, and the influence of her Norwegian ancestry on her lifestyle. She has also released a book in conjunction with the show.
