Sirron Norris Studio Gallery: 3.9 Art Collective - Still Here.
Artists: Nancy Cato, Rodney Ewing, Sirron Norris, William Rhodes, Ron Moultrie Saunders.
Comment by RWM: Pain. Injustice. Angst. Beauty. Narrative.
Comment by AB: The 3.9 in this show's title refers to the current (and progressively decreasing) percentage of African Americans living in San Francisco, a city that prides itself on diversity. As you might imagine, the participating artists have a thing or two to say about that.

Gallery Hijinks: Pakayla Biehn - (t)here.
Review by RWM: Beauty is appreciated here. You can get lost and immersed in Nature as well. The floral world beckons; the sun provides life energy for the artistically interpreted trees. Easy to experience the transcendental beauty.
Comment by AB: Pakayla Biehn's magic realist portrait renditions on canvas are varying combinations of oils, acrylics, and digital media.

Comment by AB: Root Division's annual fundraiser auction offers works by over 100 established and emerging artists. Plenty to see and buy here, but you gotta sift for the goodies. Probability of bargains? High. This is the preview. The auction's on the evening of October 20.

Modern Eden Gallery: Your Deadly Desserts - Scott Hove.
Review by Neal Strickberger: Combining classic cake decoration colors and textures evoking a formal celebration with rogue taxidermy and a bit of macabre humor, these cakes take a bite out of you. Its easy to imagine displaying one at a slightly twisted society event, snapping at the guests.
Comment by AB: Normally we eat dessert. At this show, it eats us. Who needs a Pit Bull when you can chain one of these babies to your wall? See for yourself; art doesn't get much wilder. That Scott Hove is a cake decoratin' dervish. Like it.
If you need a bonbon to chase down your cake, peruse the group show in the back gallery, Bite-Sized Monsters.
