Meridian Gallery: David Linger - Panels; Sanda Beard - Magenta; Kimetha Vanderveen - Pared Down Language.
Review by RWM: Interesting stories of the old times, these narrative panels on vitrified porcelain by David Linger. Get caught up in the gray day moods in... is it Russia? Solemn and nostalgic in feel. Sanda Beard's small works on paper in uncomfortable reds and beautiful magentas. At first glance, they're not necessarily easy to look at, but they may end up rubbing you the right way. Kimetha Vanderveen's high concept minimalist works are surprising and spontaneous. Her white panels are distinctive and individualistic.

Review by Mariead O'Connor: The reopening reception and group show for Varnish Fine Art promises that the future of the gallery will be a bright one. The space itself is beautiful. The people in attendance are among the elite of the San Francisco art community, as are many of the artists whose works are on display. Strong presence of Pop Surrealism here.
Review by RWM: Great to see this fantastic art at Varnish on display again. You can get lost here in the emotional narratives, though you won't necessarily find an escape. Experience personifications of pain as well as fantasy and pleasure. Stylish event with many attendees dressed in black.
Comment by AB: We always knew Varnish would be back with a vengeance and here they are.

Robert Berman / E6 Gallery: Lauren Marsolier & Marc Fichou.
Review by RWM: Fascinating collages of buildings in landscapes by Lauren Marsolier manifest a strange and disturbed environment. You can get lost in the scenery surrounding these otherworldly structures. Difficult to know what is real in these perspectives bathed in bright and soothing sunlight.
Comment by AB: Marc Fichou reflects on himself in 3-D mixed media video portrait works, one of which viewers can actually immerse themselves in. These'll reel you in. Also on display are several geometric exercise in two and three dimensions.
