Market Street Gallery: Desiderate - Calcagno Cullen.
Comment by AB: Curious participatory installation about the way things are versus the way we'd like them to be. Cryptic collage-style prints line the walls, a desk in moderate disarray is positioned in one corner, and dueling typewriters where viewers can type their thoughts are positioned in the center of the gallery floor.

A Simple Collective: Mark Baugh-Sasaki - The Uncanny Valley.
Review by RWM: Amazing creation that will haunt. Never seen anything like this in the back room before. Great to listen to the running waters, but at the same time, you feel like you are being eaten by some creature from the wild in the dark. Fun and unusual. They do let you escape.
Comment by AB: The back half of the small gallery is walled and curtained off into a darkened room containing a spider-like rock and metal sculpture with a two-screen video installation.

Guerrero Gallery: Ben Venom - Piece of Mind; Lucien Shapiro - Vessel.
Comment by AB: Ben Venom stitches up a storm in the front gallery. Nothing like a death metal comforter to keep you cozy on those brisk San Francisco nights. In the rear gallery, Lucien Shapiro elevates folk art techniques to a fine art level with is recycled detritus assemblages. Ingredients include bottle caps, pop tops, keys, plastic lighters, and more. For those of you keeping score at home, this is Guerrero Gallery's last show at this location. I'm sure we'll be seeing them again in new digs soon. But in the meantime, this is a good show on both counts and definitely worth seeing.
