Catharine Clark Gallery: This is the Sound of Someone Losing the Plot. Curated by Anthony Discenza.
Artists: Gareth Spor and Piero Passacantando, Bruno Fazzolari, Josh Greene, Stephanie Syjuco, Patricia Esquivias, Arash Fayez, Lauren Marsden, and Kate Bonner.
Comment by AB: Not only is the inaugural exhibition at Catharine Clark Gallery's new location, but it's also the official debut of the new (and burgeoning) Potrero Arts District. So far, we've got five quality galleries within a block of each other (four with their grand openings today), a number of additional galleries within the immediate vicinity, and California College of the Arts close by. This group show curated by Anthony Discenza acknowledges the close proximity to CCA and features some of their more noted faculty and alumni.

Brian Gross Fine Art: Ed Moses - Yesterday's Tomorrow.
Comment by AB: Los Angeles artist Ed Moses has been exhibiting his art for well over fifty years, starting with Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles in 1958. His paintings are always fresh and original, as he continually devises techniques for achieving fascinating and enigmatic effects. Definitely worth a visit.

Hosfelt Gallery: Stefan Kürten - Tonight and the Beautiful Future.
Comment by AB: Architectural interiors and exteriors reference various aspects of comfortable modern living, but his dark palette renders the scenarios mildly ominous, as if environmental degradation is gradually impinging on our otherwise good times.

Jack Fischer Gallery: Years of Pretty - Ward Schumaker.
Comment by AB: Spontaneous expressive abstractions often with accents of text signify the art by Ward Schumaker, ten years worth to be exact, all dating from 2003-2013. Also on the docket is a selection of his unique hand-painted artist books, and a small group of container-like painted wood and cardboard sculptures. Stop on by.
