George Lawson Gallery: Susan Mikula - u.X... recent photographs.

Comment by AB: Susan Mikula tells me that this series of photographs harks back to her childhood, sort a personal journey of introspection originating from memories of her distant past. Toys she grew up with are the subjects of her photographs, but the indeterminate images are not so much of the toys themselves, but rather of their shadows.

Tyler Wood Gallery: Chason Matthams.

Comment by AB: Precise and proficient abstract/representational blends by Chason Matthams are based on images from the Internet and his own photographs, the upshot meant to reflect on the pervasiveness of all things digital in our lives. Also on exhibit are several photorealistic renditions of film and video cameras. Nice work; stop on by.

Comment by AB: In their continuing collaboration, these works by Amanda Hughen and Jennifer Starkweather pay tribute to the past and future history of the San Francisco Bay Bridge. The show coincides with the opening of the new East Span.

Comment by AB: Morris Taylor dedicates his every moment to living the master & slave lifestyle... and that includes celebrating it in art. For those of you keeping score at home, he and his slave Jonathan are the recent winners of the 2013 International Master Slave Contest.

Comment by AB: This year's Murphy and Cadogan awards go to 26 promising MFA students from area art schools, colleges and universities. They each receive a $5,000 grant given in "support of exploring and developing (the artists') artistic potential in digital art, film/video, hybrid practice, installation, mixed media, painting, photography and sculpture." Some good art here. Stop on by.
