Gallery 60SIX: Pull - Jenny Bloomfield.
Comment by AB: Academic abstraction by Jenny Bloomfield abides by theory and formalities likely spanning back to AbEx, so I suppose if you're up on your antecedents, this type of work takes on substantive significance. Then there's the layers and process and additions and removals, and I get all that, and yes, it's well enough done, but in the end what do you have? Perhaps witnessing her create the work firsthand might engender reverence for the gravity of the matter, but in the interim, I go wanting.

Kaltek: Industrial Robotics and Art Performance - Kal Spelletich.
Comment by AB: Yes, "you voluntarily assume the risk of serious injury or death by attending this performance," but the upside is that you can't experience or participate in anything like this anywhere. Master of Ceremonies Kal Spelletich whips out his wacky animatronics and let's the guests have free reign of his cavernous warehouse space, overflowing with interactive kinetics. There's a restless machine in a plexiglass cage, a device that shakes your hand, a tree branch armature suspended from the ceiling, a bumpy ride in an armchair, the pillar of flame, and plenty more. Always worth a visit.

Winston Smith's Grant's Tomb: Group Show and Art Party.
Artists: Winston Smith, Kermene K-P Hassell, Ronald Sauer, Rebecca Peters, Meg Bay, Caoimhe Carty, Jason Chandler, Tiffany Pollard, and more.
Comment by AB: Yet another classic Winston Smith convocation, rife with counterculture characters, copious conviviality, and a motley medley of affordable art courtesy of the local bohemians.
