Review and images by Laura Chenault: The works in this show celebrate the written word with a nice variety of mediums. Gorgeous full-color photographs by Cara Barer transform mundane books into visual masterpieces. Books are altered becoming lively organic sculptures and subsequently photographed. Jerry Kunkel's mostly monochromatic piece is reminiscent of old movies and romance, the nostalgia heightened with the vintage train imagery. Patrick Dintino's kaleidoscopic large scale collage work is vibrant and sexy transforming repeating shapes and colors into bigger cohesive pieces. Greg Gossel's cartoon-inspired graphic works are modern versions of classic Warhol and Lichtenstein. Eric Michael Corrigan's reinterpretation of the cover of "Some Girls" by the Rolling Stones is effective and colourful. Sofia Harrison's mosaic work of broken glass formed into fragmented hearts is a statement of reforming pieces to create the whole. Intimate paintings by Wendy Robushi are completely created with repeating words. Overall, an inspiring collection of pieces celebrating language, reading and the almighty word.
