Eli Ridgway Gallery: Wolfgang Ganter - Informel Logic; Sean McFarland - Untitled (1948-2012).
Comment by AB: The art of Wolfgang Ganter is on exhibit in the main upstairs and downstairs galleries. Ganter tells me he cultures bacteria on thousands of old discarded 35mm slides, allowing them to degenerate to varying degrees and into fascinating abstract patterns. He then prints enlargements of select examples of the decomposed results, meticulously mounts them on wood panels and applies high-gloss finishes. Art meets science, skill, ingenuity, facility and conscientious craftsmanship. Check it out.
In the project space, a cadre of self-appointed art smarties are gushing over Sean McFarland's mini installation along with McFarland himself, talking sundry arcane argot, and having a splendid little group grope about how fabulous they all are, when I walk in and they instantly scatter. One of them even gloats about it saying, "It's all yours"-- the room, that is-- as he exits the space, like they're done eating and I'm welcome to scrounge for crumbs. Perhaps perchance, on a lark, on a whim, Sean McFarland and your elitist amigos, condescend to indulge me for a moment or three on these exceptionally infrequent occasions. I know you're better than I am, but humor me up, feign to acknowledge my philistine existence, and perhaps even stoop to answer a pathetic uninformed question or two. Thirty seconds, a minute max; that's all I need. And please-- stop acting like little children.
