Fouladi Projects: Ballad Del Toro - Johnpaul Altamirano, Sean Cheetham, Jeff Nentrup; Esque Studio Glass.
Comment by AB: Johnpaul Altamirano, Sean Cheetham and Jeff Nentrup paint themselves into traditional Wild West compositions, including portraits of each other in period cowboy get-ups, spruced up with occasional contemporary accents like motorcycles or aluminum beer cans. I hardly ever go to a show of art by artists who not only know how to paint in classic styles, but who also know how to imbue that work with a satisfying component of contemplative and cognitive chops (it's usually either one or the other). But here you get art for the mind as well as the eye. I like it. In the gallery's front windows are glass by Esque Studio including the obligatory skull and gun. Yep... two components of contemporary urban art that I see absolutely everywhere. Worth a visit.

ArtZone 461 Gallery: Parallel Universes - Miranda Putman and Randy Beckelheimer.
Review by RWM: There is something about abstract painting that can be monumental and spectacular. The artwork here fits that bill. Though not on the big white walls of a museum, the assembled artwork can be shocking and unnerving. Great to see a whole painting filled with one color. Nice to see chaos, though slightly monochromatic, on the wall. These fine art abstractions follow a tradition of more representational work at this gallery.

Comment by AB: You should really get your portrait painted. Yes... you... the person reading this. It's way better than a photograph, even one taken by a really good photographer (sorry photographers). Why? Because you get that unique hand-done artistic interpretation that no camera can capture. In case you're thinking about it, some of the more impeccable practitioners in this show will definitely help you make up your mind. Book a commission. You won't regret it 'cause you'll never look as good as you do right now. No... wait. I take that back. A skilled portrait artist can make you look even better than you do right now-- way better. Go see.
