Velvet da Vinci: Magic City - Work from Artists from the School of Jewellery, Birmingham; Karin Johansson - Collecting Butterflies.
Magic City artists: Farrah Al-Dujaili, Emily Bullock, Lydia Feast, Christine Graf, Nanna Grønborg, I Ting (Heather) Ho, Zita Hsu, Christiana Joeckel, Lisa Juen, Yi (Roger) Liu, Katharina Moch, Kathryn Partington, Jo Pond, Fliss Quick, Xiaohan (Vincent) Ren, Natalie Smith, Li-Chu Wu, Wen-Miao Yeh.
Review by RWM: Jewelry like you have never seen before from the School of Jewellery, Birmingham, England. They have taken on the technological juggernaut. You can ward things off by placing their bracelets and bands on your wrist. Also beautiful to see Karin Johansson's butterflies displayed on a wall as if in flight. Not the wild designs you would normally find in the outdoors, but a variety on display nonetheless.
Comment by AB: Jewelry like you've never before seen. Good show; go see.

John Pence Gallery: Jeremy Mann.
Comment by AB: Virtuoso cityscapes and female figural works by Jeremy Mann range from sultry to atmospheric to majestic, classic yet contemporary in their compositions and techniques, their effects often heightened with abstract flourishes. Kind of an odd combination, but it works for me. Worth a visit.

Hotel Triton c/o McKinley Art Solutions: Mike Kimball - Port Authority.
Review by RWM: Nice use of color in images that shine with the new printing technologies. One can find pleasing forms and shapes in pictures of cargo transporters and buildings. The compositions are clean and geometric. Interesting attention paid here to the city. Bright colors, big city.

Comment by AB: One of San Francisco's premier fundraisers of the year, not only for the great Southern Exposure organization, but also for area artists and the art community as well. You get to watch artists make art and then buy it on the spot for a flat rate of $60 per piece. Now there is competition to purchase certain works-- sometimes heavy competition-- for which SoEx has evolved a rather entertaining spontaneous lottery-style system involving playing cards in order to determine who the lucky buyers will be. This schmooze fest extraordinaire is historically packed to the max and always worth attending. Make sure it's on your calendar for next year. And now for a look at some of this year's participating artists and all-round action...
