Comment by AB: The Intersection for the Arts annual arts fundraiser features both live and silent auctions of quality works by fifty outstanding area artists. Not only does Intersection serve underserved communities, but it also actively encourages, promotes and helps to sustain uniquely urban art forms-- live performances of which go on for a good part of the evening. An entertaining and worthwhile event for an organization that not only deserves our attention, but also our support. Make sure you attend next year.

San Francisco LGBT Community Center: Blake Tucker - Show Yourself.
Comment by AB: Blake Tucker evolves portrait photography into whole new realms. Frame it neatly under glass like they used to do in the good old days? That's not an option here.

Incline Gallery: Either/Or - Christian Davies and Noah Ptolemy.
Comment by AB: The rigorous geometrics of Christian Davies might be likened to designs and patterns found in ethnographic textiles or handwoven rugs. Noah Ptolemy offers up enticing vibrant visions of bustling imaginative realities. Worth a visit.

Center for Sex & Culture: Fairoaks Project - Photographs by Frank Melleno.
Comment by AB: Frank Melleno's Polaroid photographs are rare documents of San Francisco's unbridled pre-AIDS gay sex scene. The setting was a gay bathhouse called The Fairoaks Hotel, in business from 1977-1979 at the corner of Oak and Steiner Streets in San Francisco. The memories appear bittersweet for a number of the people in attendance tonight, the photographs themselves memorializing an era and an attitude the likes of which none of us will ever experience again. Part of San Francisco history; check it out.

111 Minna Gallery: unEarthed - Rob Reger.
Collaborative artists: James Dirschberger, Steve Ferrera, Buzz Parker, Jared Thomas Roth.
Review by RWM: Fascinating exhibit with the wild being filtered through chaos and the less understood areas of the mind. Strange amalgamations of creatures and technical products result in offerings which startle and shock. Wild things you may have never seen before it-- a beastarium that can astound-- but also leave one worried. Thoughts are king for these creations that will move us emotionally as we confront that which is so different from us.
Comment by AB: This elaborate two-year project by Rob Reger manifests as an artistic evolutionary timeline, taking us from the beginnings of existence right on through to the present day... and beyond. Works include paintings, video, collage, installations, plants, sculpture, assemblage and various combinations thereof. More complex collaborative works are interspersed throughout the show. Plus special bonus for budget shoppers-- many of the smaller works are eminently affordable. Stop on by.
