Ratio 3 Gallery: Mathew Hale - Ma The Whale.
Review by RWM: Interesting collage collaborations between newsprint, photos, and other miscellaneous objects. One is left wondering what meanings should be derived with the "truth" here being somewhat hard to digest at times. Great associations to be had for exploring and critical minds.
Comment by AB: Mathew Hale coaxes collage out of its traditional somnambulance, sets aside all the rules, and just plain wails on whatever he considers adereable to whatever he happens to think is worthy of adherement. He then shadowboxes it all up to dimensionalize the effects, and off we go. The unconventional results are guaranteed to lasso your attention and immerse you in his recondite agenda. His seemingly endless array of ingredients includes a tin can, a smiley face, post-it notes and even a working periscope. Good show; go see.

Meridian Gallery: CERBERUS - New Transmedial Work by Jarrett Earnest, Leigha Mason, and Whitney Vangrin.
Comment by AB: Options include painterly portrait/still-life/hand combinations by Leigha Mason on the main floor, a rather lackadaisical drawing/text/textile installation incorporating honey as a significant ingredient by Jarrett Earnest on the second floor, and an intriguing latex and plastic medical-related installation focused on limbs and extremities by Whitney Vangrin on the third floor.
