Gallery 16: Tucker Nichols.

Review by RWM: Simple yet cool. Personal and free; not obviously bogged down by details and forethought. Nice spontaneity of expression.

Comment by AB: Tucker Nichols continues in his inexorable quest to make sure we notice everything we don't ordinarily notice. It's kinda like taking nothing and making it look like something, but not exactly because you can't make something out of nothing; you can only make something out of something. I mean if you could make something out of nothing, we'd all be scrillionaires. Anyway, it's not all that unusual for something to look like nothing, even though it's actually something. And that's what Nichols reminds us of here.

Electric Works Gallery: Bob Van Breda - Pencil Me In.

Review by RWM: Great sculptures of oversized pencils, often in bright colors which may startle or inspire. The pencils conjoin, sort of like a post-Oldenburg literary gathering. Such large renditions and refreshing colors. There are also clusters of smaller pencils like you find at the art store, possibly positioned to evoke stories. Color drawings may well be on the way.

Comment by AB: This dude's got a pencil fetish bigtime and he knows exactly what to do about it. Van Breda's vintage pencil and pencil-abilia collections in the rear side gallery are every bit as interesting as the art.

Gallery BellJar: small mad hope - Claire Colette.

Review by RWM: Impressive works which appreciate the landscape. The art captures history like images from an old picture camera. You can also appreciate the natural beauty of these lands, even though it is presented without color.

Needles & Pens: Nigel Peake - In The Wilds.

Review by RWM: Attractive but strange birds. Interesting barns on nice farms. Here captured is some rustic culture. You might want to take a trip to really see such wonderful places, but you can at least vicariously experience them through Nigel Peake's renditions here. Something about his ruminations compel, especially the surprising fruit that these countrysides and farmlands can sometimes bear. Some of us like to be out of the city; others prefer the city. Makes no difference; the wild creatures can still astound.
