Jenkins Johnson Gallery: Territory - Yigal Ozeri; The Moon is Down - Vanessa Prager.
Comment by AB: Yigal Ozeri was born in Israel and for the past 20 years has made his home in New York City. At first I think think I'm looking at photographs of young women, mainly taken in Central Park, and then small-format watercolors of those photographs, but they're all paintings. As good a photorealistic endeavor as I've seen in a while... and deserving of a perusal. In the rear gallery, self-taught Los Angeles artist Vanessa Prager paints up a series of strange tales in curious colors. Even though you get a sense that something foreboding lurks in the shadows, you're still beguiled by the intrigue.

The McLoughlin Gallery: STILL - Pia Maria Martin.
Comment by AB: Stuttgart, Germany artist Pia Maria Martin makes her American solo debut with complex stop-motion videos consisting of progressions of still images scripted into plot lines that range from humorous to hypnotic. Stars of her escapades include a whole frying chicken, strips of colored plastic tape, militarized rows of identical chairs, and a pot of soup. Worth stopping by.
