Gallery 16: Jock McDonald - Havana, The Long View.
Comment by AB: Jock McDonald photographically documents every meter of the 8 kilometer Malecon (famed seaside boulevard in Havana), presented in the tradition of Ruscha's recounting of Sunset Strip buildings in LA. I say never drop names, 'cuz the names you drop will always be greater than yours. And who wins that battle? Chances are real good that it's not gonna be you. Check out the show though, especially McDonald's impressive accordion-fold Malecon disquisition.

Comment by AB: Maybe I'm gettin' crotchety in my waning years, but if you're gonna curate a show, make it about something more substantial than the number of artists in it. Intrepid observers will chance upon worthy art nevertheless. Stop on by.

Center for Sex and Culture: Shilo McCabe - I masturbate...
Comment by AB: Forging relentlessly ahead into the hush-hush realms of human sexuality, this time around, Center for Sex and Culture presents us with a photographic essay on the act of masturbation courtesy of Shilo McCabe. Now we've all done it, haven't we? Or at least I think we have. McCabe simply dares to document it.
