941 Geary Gallery: In The Weeds - Kevin Cyr.
Review by RWM: Sad sort of statement about the failure of the American dream. Well executed too. Viewers can imagine themselves out in the boonies or deep in the slums, living slim. There is a real DIY sense to this work, and perhaps a desire to escape it, though some may seek it out and value it. Is this new grass greener or is it more like weeds?
Comment by AB: America's gotta downsize in a really big way; Brooklyn artist Kevin Cyr offers some pretty disconcerting suggestions on how we might start. All constructions built from scratch, he tells me. And don't forget the paintings, drawings and photographs. It's all good here; recommended viewing.
