San Francisco Art Institute: Shahzia Sikander - The exploding company man and other abstractions.
Comment by AB: Shahzia Sikander's issue-based artworks comment on globalization, politics, tradition versus modernism, East versus West, cultural divides, and more. Well versed in multiple mediums, her abstract/realist/animation video blends in the main gallery and upstairs are worth a look, as well as her contemporary takes on classic Indo-Persian miniature painting. Sikander was born in Pakistan and now lives in New York.

Fivepoints Arthouse: Loose Leaf - Launch Party.
Artists: Jeff Canham, Dave Eggers, Dwight Eschliman, Mark Giglio, Jake Longstreth, Michelle McCarron, Richard Misrach, Louisa Parris, Andrew Zuckerman, Claudia Goetzelmann.
Comment by AB: For a measly $75 (tonight only-- $95 otherwise), you get a limited edition boxed set of ten prints by the artists listed above, a pretty peppy roster. Published by Manual (manualcreative.com) in an edition of 1000. I'm thinking it's a buy.

The Odd Fellows Building, 26 Seventh St., #202, San Francisco, CA 94102: The Oddists.
Review by RWM: Not as odd as one might expect, but who's to judge. Nice work on display by artist Aladdin with experimental and multidimensional abstracts. Nice also to see the work of Richard L. Perri showcased, particular his characterizations of our offbeat city. fascinating personages line the wall, some of whom you have seen before. Oddness on display and in attendance as well.

Project One Gallery: LORDS vs. CoBraS.
Artists: Alex Pardee, Axis, Atlas, Haste, Esel, Nicnak, Greg "Craola" Simkins, Hex, Dment, Shaun "Kasl" Singer, Natoe, Aura, Dytch 66, Richard "Xpres" Taylor, Mers, Robert Bowen, Pastime, Adee, Ricky Watts, Marcos LaFarga, Defie, Satyr, Timber, Werm, Rome, Rebuke.
Comment by AB: A friendly face-off between two talented graffiti crews from San Francisco (LORDS) and Los Angeles (CoBraS). Some quality examples represent the ongoing transition of urban art from outdoors to indoors to everywhere. Hard to imagine that what began as names scrawled city walls and subways in the 1970s is now such a ubiquitous part of our lives.
