Gallery Paule Anglim: John Zurier - Watercolors; Eleanor Coppola - Scrolls.

Review by RWM: Interesting freeform water colors. Great spontaneity. Surprising and startling works. Fun to be along for the play... and deeply felt expressions. The unexpected and odd are on display.

Comment by AB: In the main gallery, reductivist abstracted landscapes (and perhaps mindscapes as well) recount John Zurier's journeys to Iceland and Scandinavia. As elemental as they are, you can sense where he's been. In the side gallery, Eleanor Coppola transforms romantic photographs of Napa Valley landscapes and autumn fields of fallen gingko tree leaves into minimalist hanging scrolls. For those of you playing the home game, Eleanor Coppola is the wife of Francis Ford Coppola. Stop on by; it's all good here.

Z Space Gallery: Everywhere All at Once - Vanessa Marsh.

Comment by AB: Layered silhouetted mist and night scenes by Vanessa Marsh offer up enigmatic moments to be pondered and possibly even resolved by viewers. To achieve her eerie effects, Marsh combines composed foregrounds and backgrounds with photographic mid-grounds.

Ian Ross Gallery: Chaos/Clarity - Zio Ziegler.

Review by RWM: Great reaction to or rediscovery of the Cubists and Picasso. Nice to see a modern homage to those with such distinct and memorable styles. Some may find that these emotions run deeply in one's veins. The effect nonetheless is startling. Great show about whose styles have not been seen in sometime.

Comment by AB: Bright vibrant freewheeling updates on Modern Masters are somewhat subdued in impact by other compositions which come dismayingly close to those of the artists who did them first. The gallery is absolutely crammed with art, a testament to the prolific abilities of the artist, however the upshot is at times visually overwhelming. Always good to keep in mind that with art, less is usually more. Check it out.

Photographers: Alex Miloradovich, Andrew Boyle, Gregg Martinez, Judy Golden, Katharine Snyder, Leonardas Surgaila, Lynn Alcorn, Michelle McKenzie, Proctor Jones, Ruby Ray, rAmu Aki, Rebecca Peters.

Comment by AB: The latest episode of classic character-dense North Beach Bohemian merrymaking where commerce takes a back seat to camaraderie, the art is 100% affordable, and everyone comes away a winner.
