RENA BRANSTEN - MR. BARBERSHOP & URBAN LOUNGE
04.09.09
(with assistance from R.W. Miller)
Rena Bransten Gallery: Tara Tucker - Foreign Relations; Marci Washington - Dark Mirror.
Comment by AB: In the front gallery, Marci Washington accomplishes the near impossible-- she makes gruesome look good-- so good, you want to hang it on your walls. Kinda reminds you that... sure... every now and again you have a bad day but somehow, even when you're in the thick of it, you know that it's all gonna be OK-- especially if you keep things in perspective. Not wanting to leave Washington entirely out of my own personal take on her art, I'll add that according to her, the work is about decadence, crisis, decline and collapse, with particular focus on society (like, for example, ours). In the rear gallery, Tara Tucker's intricately arresting graphite on paper portrayals of animals and animal/creature comminglings comment on evolution, survival of the fittest, and the hope that perhaps someday we can all live together as one.
