Fraenkel Gallery: Christian Marclay - Things I've Heard, Booksigning & Opening.
Review by RWM: If it makes sound, it is probably presented here. All sorts of associations and contraptions on display in photographs-- great objects that can tell stories. Fun despite the serious treatment. The message may depend upon whose ears are listening.

Art People Gallery: SNAC Iran 2012 and Persian New Year Celebration.
Comment by AB: Works by the top 25 Iranian artist winners of SNAC (Social Network Art Competition). Art People owner Ali Meamar tells me that all the art is brought to America at his expense and all the profits go directly to the artists. We like that. Quality art at notably reasonable prices. Have yourself a look.

George Lawson Gallery: John Millei - Recent Paintings.
Comment by AB: According to the crib sheet, "the six paintings in this show were painted for the San Francisco gallery space, for the intimacy of it. They were conceived as a progression, and in some sense perhaps as a kind of private correspondence." So there you go-- a Los Angeles artist who graciously sizes his work down to Fog City specs.

Hosfelt Gallery: Alan Rath - Irrational Exuberance.
Comment by AB: About as strange and whimsical as art ever gets, yet with a purpose. Alan Rath marries his MIT-acquired engineering skills with pheasant and ostrich feathers to produce eccentric skeletal kinetics programmed to mimic the movements of birds. The sculptures are algorithm driven which means that they do not engage in endless duplicative loops, but rather in random patterns of organized "behaviors." Fascinating though they may be, my antiquarian muse informs me that feathers do not age particularly well, even with only modest activity, and that some allowance should probably be made for that. You have to see this work in person to really appreciate the work.
