Jessica Silverman Gallery: Christopher Badger - Lunar Mirror.

Review by RWM: Cool moonscapes for a subject to be explored and appreciated. It is quite the strange new world as promised with its own fascinating geological features. Great to see it in sculpture as it has been a wonder for years. Cool big rock in our skies to marvel at and be inspired by. As attested to back in 1969, we made it there.

Comment by AB: Moonscapes mathmeticized, moon sculptures aluminumized. No dearth of talent here. Check it out.

Comment by AB: A show inspired by video game characters, classic and contemporary, and I must say that for those of you who are intrepid enough to keep you finger on the pulse of urban culture, this establishment would be a place where you might perhaps perpetrate to do that. You can't simply ignore what's happening on the other side of the tracks. It ain't always pretty, but it's definitely relevant.

Electric Works Gallery: Scott Serrano - Picturesque Flora Wallaceana, Botanical Ambulations In Greater Wallaceana 1854- 1857.

Review by RWM: Dark tale about indiscretions, imperialism and historical crimes. Great argument against explaining it all as part of our animal nature. Survival of the fittest has been used as a justification for horrible things in the past as described here. One can argue instead that survival of the fittest, at least in the animal and wild kingdom, has produced some very beautiful and wondrous things. Not quite the full picture here, but our understanding of others and our responsibilities towards others have also improved and evolved. There have been dark times in what used to be a more dangerous world and society. As shown here, we have not gotten it all out of our systems yet.

Comment by AB: Scott Serrano conjures up a fantabulist antiquarian reality replete with detailed commentary. The best part? It's believable. Go see.

Dogpatch Cafe: Shawn Ray Harris - PhotographsPlus.

Review by RWM: Nice variety for protagonists who have been impacted by the zeitgeist. Some compositions are stylized like playing cards. Others display themselves like animal people. In this case, the subjects are portrayed in their local city environs. Interesting postures and attitudes among these people who are making the best of reality as their wild selves. To some extent they are totems for the beleaguered. Fun to a point to be wild and among the wild in the city. Cool empathetic beings out for a stroll.
