Root Division: Multiply & Conquer - In Conjunction with the Southern Graphics Council Conference. Curated by Jon Gourley.

Artists: Amze Emmons, Juan Fuentes, John-Mark Ikeda, Laura Kim, John Lopez, Walter Robinson, Tim Sullivan, Stephanie Syjuco.

Comment by AB: The commonality between one work and the next is supposed to be "multiples" and how the artists "utilize the multiple as a means of 'conquering' restrictions and regulations on information dissemination and challenging the 'benefits' of industrial mass production," whatever that means. Some of the pieces are multiples while others are unique. Bottom line? I don't get it. Fortunately, the art's generally commendable.

Cult/Aimee Friberg Exhibitions: Miguel Arzabe - /*Reject Algorithms*/; Drawings - Jacqueline Kiyomi Gordon.

Comment by AB: Experience a progressive meta-modern painting and light installation in the front gallery by Miguel Arzabe. The thing about paintings like these is that I'm never really sure how well the artist actually knows how to paint. Perhaps display one traditionally painted representational piece in an inconspicuous location, away from the rest, or maybe a nonrepresentational piece that clearly demonstrates the artist's control or mastery of technique and medium... for assessment purposes, just so that we who are curious can see what you've got in the hopper. In the rear gallery, Jacqueline Kiyomi Gordon shows a series of well-executed abstract forms that look sorta like stomachs, painted over grids.

SFMOMA Artists Gallery: Daniel Grant, Rachelle Reichert.

Comment by AB: Nice pairing of Rachelle Reichert's elaborate floral-laden graphite figure drawings with Daniel Grant's soft sensitive photographs of torsos.

ArtZone 461 Gallery: Working Together - Art Hazelwood & William Wolff (1922-2004)

Review by RWM: Great work about the monsters and dogs of war. Here are some creatures that do not spend a lot of time in the City by the Bay. The political activist works comment about certain states of affairs. Startling pieces will have some people up in arms. Strange characters on display in a world which has lost too much of its understanding and compassion.
