The McLoughlin Gallery: Everything Was - Daniel Healey, MoE aka Moe Thomas, and ESK.
Comment by AB: The McLoughlin Gallery journeys across The Bay to corral, import and exhibit three promising Oakland talents. I've gotta go with Daniel Healy who takes pieces of clear plastic tape (by the thousands), presses them against illustrations in mail order catalogs just long enough to remove surface ink, and then adheres them to canvases in labyrinthine abstract patterns. Not quite sure about their longevity factor, but they sure look good now. It's all worth perusing at this one. Stop on by.

Misho Gallery: Abstract Landscapes. Co-curated by Misho & Alan Mazzetti.
Artists: Leslie Morgan, EB Bound, Alan Mazzetti, Brian Andrews, Asha Menghrajani, Xavier Phelp, Ann Simms, Robert Reed, Jeanne Hauser, Jack Andovich, Misho.
Review by RWM: Not everybody is meticulous enough to closely render the landscapes they see. Not everyone cares to take photographs. Sometimes those approaches are not of interest or what is deeply experienced. Nice to see a variety of styles and perspectives. Here sung are people's connections with the natural world in their own idiosyncratic ways. Though the work is not fully representational, the experiences here are those of the artists and not always widely known. The beauty is still broadly experienced and the joy memorable.

Will Brown Gallery: Grand Opening - Illegitimate Business.
Artists: Jeremy Blake, Nayland Blake, Mathew Brady, Chuck Close, Kate Gilmore, Chris Johanson, Martin Kippenberger, Harmony Korine, Sol LeWitt, Mary Ellen Mark, Bruce Nauman, Catherine Opie, Andres Serrano, Roman Signer, Kara Walker, Carrie Mae Weems.
Comment by AB: Triple Base is now Will Brown and tonight is the establishment's inaugural extravaganza. The mob of enthusiasts waiting to experience this basement affair dribbles out the gallery door and overflows onto 24th Street. The plum they're all salivating for? Illegitimate Business, a collaboration with Zachary Royer Scholz and Brion Nuda Rosch, displays works of art by well-known artists that have been, according to the proclamation, largely purloined.
Waiting to see the show at Will Brown.

Gallery 1044: Mechanical Voyages - Closing Event.
Artists: Eddie Valentine, Jane Elliott, Frederic Crum, Johnny Botts, Solis.
Comment by AB: Gallery 1044 is officially extinct except for a continuing presence on the web. The show is being taking down as I'm there and the fixtures are either being sold or given away. Some worthy art nonetheless.
