Varnish Fine Art: Creatures of Saintly Disguise - Jennybird Alcantara Book Release & Artist Signing Party.
Review by RWM: Nice to catch a buzz from the work of Jennybird Alcantara. All sorts of symbols in her art, with narratives. Great show of emotion even if varied and at times pained. Fantastical stories with angst and surprises. Don't forget to look at the interesting titles for each of these paintings, all of which reveal.
Comment by AB: First publication of Varnish Fine Art. Collector alert-- first is always best.

Dickerman Prints: Photographic Work from the Dickerman Prints Residency Program.
Artists: Amanda Boe, Jon McNeal, Charles Purvis.
Review by RWM: Some amazing work where photography becomes abstract art. There are also natural wonders and created structures on display which inspire and fascinate. One wonders how some of these photographs were taken.
Comment by AB: Amanda Boe reconciles South Dakota with the Far West; Jon McNeal ponders man vs our Western wonders; Charles Purvis waxes alien in arcane Polaroid still-lifes.

Rhodes & Fletcher LLC: John-Mark Ikeda - Downtown. In cooperation with Spare Change Artist Space. Curated by Amy Cancelmo of Root Division.
Comment by AB: In an ode to corporate capitalist lifestylers everywhere, John-Mark Ikeda flattens a suit and makes a series of progressively fainter prints from it. If you ask me, corporate control and influence is not getting the least bit fainter, but we can always hope. Several related videos and prints are also on exhibit.
