Fouladi Projects: Love, Life, Art and the Devil - Featuring work by Sacha Eckes.
Comment by AB: Sacha Eckes trundles herself on over from Belgium to serve us up a healthy dose of her unique text/satire/abstract blends. Enjoy paintings, drawings, co-opted posters and photographs, and more at this entertaining and upbeat endeavor.

Ratio 3 Gallery: Jordan Kantor.
Comment by AB: Jordan Kantor makes art out of his studio leftovers including rags used to wipe paint, and dregs harvested from the bottoms of jars of mineral spirits that are used to clean paint brushes in. He sews the rags onto unprimed canvases and then frames the results with extended lengths of wood strips painted to match colors found in the rags. As for the paint jar dregs, he paints this monotone muck onto various canvases. In the side gallery, experience more of the same, this time in the form of a series of repetitive hand-against-fabric paintings meant to be depictions of throw-away photos typically used by film technicians for color correcting. Now what this all means, I have no idea. A befuddling concept married to middling craftsmanship makes me wonder... is this for real or is it simply an elaborate put-on? For all I know, pondering that quandary may be precisely where Jordan wants the viewer to be.

Romer Young Gallery: Amanda Curreri - The Aunque.
Comment by AB: You wouldn't think that the adept progressive paintings, video and installations in this show are more socio-political and gender-based commentary than they are art... but they are. Or maybe they're an equal dose of both. Regardless, what better way to initiate sensitive yet necessary conversation than via ostensibly dispassionate works of art? It's kinda like an aesthetic ambush... hopefully with an enlightened ending. I like it.
