Review by RWM: Beautiful use of color. Wonderful color schemes in acrylic and resin. Great fun for those who think of color theory. Delightful and vibrant.

Comment by AB: Freddy Chandra tells me that his medium of choice is bullet resistant acrylic security glass, the kind they use to protect bank tellers and the like, which he cuts, buffs and colors. Beauty is everywhere; all you have to do is reveal it. Nicely done; check it out.

Catharine Clark Gallery: Nina Katchadourian - Two Libraries, Recently Sorted Books.

Comment by AB: Nina Katchadourian mines libraries, conscripts specific titles and arranges them into succinct sequences, deliberate in intent yet open to interpretation. It's kind of an advanced version of word association, the combos clearly personal, though rewarding for anyone who wishes to engage in their contemplation. The two libraries Katchadourian selects from for this show are the Delaware Art Museum's M.G. Sawyer Collection of Decorative Bindings and the private library of a Texas family. Worth a visit.

Jack Fischer Gallery: Ken Graves and Bernardo Roman Palau.

Review by RWM: Amazing. Wonderful birds. Introspective works which challenge the viewer. Not clear what this is all about. Strange red dots.

Comment by Neal Strickberger: Small well-crafted works by Ken Graves are dedetailed and spooky. Visual musings on spots by Bernardo Roman Palau; art with positive and negative spaces.

Comment by AB: Delicate shadow box collage and assemblage combinations by Ken Graves are subtle, intriguing and surreal. Paintings by Bernardo Roman Palau isolate birds, animals and an occasional individual in sparse somber environments.

George Lawson Gallery: Jacob Melchi - nothing is plural.

Review by RWM: Revel in the unexpected, abstract compositions one might have never have seen the likes of before. Interesting shapes and surprises.

Comment by AB: Here's something you don't see every day-- progressive abstractions influenced by, among other things, freshly mowed lawns and baseball diamonds.

Steven Wolf Fine Arts: Paul Mavrides - Art Work Makes You Free.

Comment by AB: Paul Mavrides transforms vintage thrift store prints, paintings and paint-by-numbers art into campy off-kilter doctrines by applying clean block letter words, phrases, directives and expressions. In the rear gallery, Mavrides' black velvet paintings range from whimsical to weighty.

Review by RWM: Gruesome. Fleshy. Meaty. Some animals also fearing the slaughter.

Comment by AB: Arion Press releases its deluxe version of Animal Farm by George Orwell, limited to 300 signed and numbered copies, each containing 24 relief print illustrations by Jonathan Hammer.

Review by RWM: Take a trip to the edge of the galaxy and your imagination. Great show and fun exploration of the future. One does not quite get lost in this new future, having seen some of it before.
