Hosfelt Gallery: Andrew Schoultz - Illuminated Opposition
Comment by AB: This exhibition is so dense with energy and all kinds of other good stuff that I feel like I'm doing a disservice by not showing everything. Regardless of size (and the range is considerable), the attention to detail is exceptional and noteworthy to the point that I'm compelled pepper this coverage with close-ups. Welcome to a firecracker world where action never sleeps. Excellent all the way around. On through January 20. Recommended viewing.

Weinstein Gallery: Oskar Fischinger - Raumlichtkunst
Comment by AB: Oskar Fischinger was one of the first artists to combine music with film. The centerpiece of this show is a fully restored three-screen abstract film with soundtrack created in Europe in 1926, 14 years before Walt Disney's Fantasia (which he also worked on ) and decades before everything else. For those of you keeping score at home, that's 92 years ago. If you're into video art, you'd better not pass on this rare opportunity. Truth. On through January 20. Related artworks are also on display. Fischinger is one of the more fascinating artists ever to settle and work in California, especially with respect to avant garde film, but he was no slouch at painting and 2D works on paper either.

Lee Harvey Roswell Studio: Holiday Open House
Comment by AB: Happened to be in the neighborhood, so I stopped by to say hello and bask in the dark and macabre delight of Roswell's art.
