General comment by Hilary Pecis: Miami was a lot of fun, but this year was different from years past due to the state of the economy. There were much fewer collectors walking around, and the crazy art-flying-off-the-walls that occurs during the VIP previews was virtually nonexistent. Collectors were taking their time and waiting until the end to negotiate deals from the gallerists. Prints were hotter items as well. I know that the economic climate is affecting all of us in the art world, but examining it from a distance, I think that it will (in the long run) provide a stronger group of artists, galleries, writers and collectors. Hopefully the people I care for can hang in there, despite the lack of funds, and create a stronger and clearer sense of what it is they are trying to do.
