111 Minna Gallery: 17 Reasons Why - Michael Murphy; Deconstructavist Barnisms - Nate Geare

Comment by AB: Two questions answered here. What do you get when you marry the best of the past with the toxicity of the future? Michael Murphy answers that. What do you get if today's foremost modern architects designed barns? Nate Geare answers that. Good show on both counts.

Gallery 16: Golden Prisn - Cliff Hengst and Scott Hewicker

Comment by AB: Partners Cliff Hengst and Scott Hewicker have lived in The Mission for over thirty years. The title of the show, Golden Prisn, refers to what life today is like in their radically transformed environment. Yes, San Francisco remains a fabulous place to live, but as opportunities and options become limited for creative artistic types, adjustment to the new reality of liberated-yet-trapped is not always easy. Worth a visit.

Bass & Reiner: El Hbito - Marcela Pardo Ariza & Lorena Zertuche Daz

Comment by AB: Lorena Zertuche Daz both mutates and integrates everyday objects into her witty, aesthetically adept furniture and functional decorative objects. My prognosticatory bunion is sensing a bright future here. For the walls, we have Marcela Pardo Ariza's systematized frame-and-photo abstractions. Go see.
