Anglim Gilbert Gallery: Bruno Fazzolari - Synesthesia; Bull.Miletic - Venetie (1500-2017)
Review by Stacey Forbes: Bruno Fazzolari's interest in Synesthesia has inspired him to create fragrances along with paintings from paint and scents crafted from organic matter and minerals. The bright paintings can be enjoyed both individually and in groups, and from a variety of angles. One can also explore both the foreground versus background relationships and the gestalt of the whole. The exhibit also features a delightful glowing uranium "yellow" flacon with his new fragrance "Unsettled" that was formulated with scents of the Pacific Rim (bergamot, china black tea, clary sage, pineapple, new caledonian sandalwood, labdanum, vanilla, ocean breezes?). The scent is complex and lovely.
The Venetie (1500-2017) installation by husband/wife team Bull.Miletic consists of Venetie MMXVII, three digital prints corresponding in size with Jacopo de' Barbari's famous woodcut from 1500, View of Venice, and Venetie 11111100001, an algorithmic video displayed on a slanted screen. A new way to experience architecture, I heard others discussing where they had been in their trips to Veneto. But the images are much more than maps. To me, walking slowly back and forth from image to image, I can feel myself becoming endlessly lost in the beautiful city of Venice. The effect creates a bit of, just a hint of, a three dimensional place. The video also dissects the buildings and the water, lifting them up, turning them over in order to explore their undersides for brief moments. Then you are led on to various sightings of architecture, slices and angles, of this mesmerizing and most romantic of cities.
