Gallery Paule Anglim: James Drake - Reception; Gary Lapow.
Review by RWM: Vignettes of symbols and significations by Gary Lapow are presented with clever repetitiveness, style and charm. Here is art with meaning, not just artifice, the observation of which will certainly trend you toward introspection.
James Drake's mystical cut paper works with graphite images invite viewers to discern and to formulate what has been excised from this high design art. The works cover a lot of ground and wall space, contrasting the delicate realms of nature with the blunt force of the machine.

Rena Bransten Gallery: Robb Putnam - Orphans; Henry Wessel - Vintage Still Photographs
Comment by AB: Robb Putnam transforms tatters into man's best friend culminating in an upbeat entertaining cavalcade of "detritus dogs." In the side gallery, Henry Wessel's vintage photographic images recount life out West in the 1960s and 70s.

Togonon Gallery: Approximating Truth, Second Annual West Coast Exhibition of Artists Using Photography - Seza Bali, Dean Dempsey, Nadim Sabella and Judy Wu; Lights - Grant Davidson.
Review by RWM: Dean Dempsey's intriguing backlit photographs appear to extract out various truths about gender. One cannot help but feel a strange pain and alientation. In this quirky exhibit, his photographs definitely stand out with their missing body parts and altered images. Among the other photos in the show are remote and inspiring landscape pictures which invert, clone and mirror images to appear double faceted. And the black and white still life photographs of lights by Grant Davidson are engaging as well.

Fecal Face Dot Gallery: Future Colors of America - Albert Reyes, Matt Furie, Aiyana Udesen.
Comment by AB: Collaborative and individual works by a wily triumvirate essay on the where we're at and where we're headed with particularly incisive commentary on the fallout from pop culture idolatry. A rather raucous affair all the way around, I must say. Stop on by and glimpse the future.
