Silverman Gallery: Matt Lipps - HOME.

Comment by AB: Matt Lipps makes these photo-collages-- I guess you might call 'em-- where he mounts paper cutouts, places them on flat surfaces against various backdrops, and then photographs the composites. A quite uncomplicated concept with notably engaging results from cognitive as well as visual perspectives. You gotta see 'em in person-- too much reflection in these images to really appreciate the effects.

Ratio 3 Gallery: Jordan Kantor.

Comment by AB: The individual works (and groupings of like works) certainly hold their own, but the aggregate's a mite disjointed-- approaching a group show with no clear theme or direction. Now Ratio 3 attempts to wriggle its way out of this predicament in advance with a little of that good old fashioned down home circumlocution-- "Though comprised of individual pieces, this exhibition is conceived as a constellation of works to be seen together in the space in which they are shown." But... uh... does that pretty much describe all art shows? Just diaper me up and call me clueless.
