871 Fine Arts: Jordan Kantor - Selected Objects (sympathetically arranged), Books, Ephemera, Paintings
Comment by AB: Using the 871 Fine Arts extensive stock of rare, out-out-print and uncommon art books, catalogues and ephemera as source materials, Jordan Kantor blends in his own art to create installations and arrangements, each with its own esoteric narrative. For those of you keeping score at home, if you like art books and related printed materials, especially the unusual and hard-to-find kind, 871 Fine Arts is Ess Eff's premier purveyor by far. Nobody else even comes close. Check it out next time you're in the vicinity. Right downstairs from Crown Point Press.

Capital Gallery: World Won't Listen
Artists: Bruce Conner, Kara Walker, Cheyney Thompson, Andrea Longacre-White.
Comment by AB: The show statement's a nice piece of writing. For example, "We are artists. Our job is to make exhibitions. We understand that it might seem hypocritical to do our work, to think through questions that hurt our souls, to participate in the market, to sell our work. We get it. We feel the weight of this compromise. We ask the world to look even when we can't imagine how it might make a difference. And so we find ourselves coming back to the work that calls us, as artists: we make things. We cannot help ourselves but to talk to you, with you, at you."
I'm a huge fan of art writing I can actually understand and appreciate. I'm also a huge fan of writing that makes it personal as opposed to the kind that intentionally attempts to eradicate every last strand of humanity from the work.
