San Francisco Museum of Modern Art: 2008 SECA Art Award Exhibition.
Artists: Tauba Auerbach, Desiree Holman, Jordan Kantor, Trevor Paglen.
Comment by AB: Once every two years (or biennially as they say in artland), SECA aka Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art, a group affiliated with SFMOMA, honors exceptionally promising local artists with an exhibition at the museum. This time around we have Tauba Auerbach's two-dimensional forays into TV static, binary code, letters and numbers; Desiree Holman's performance video of ordinary everyday otherworldly individuals going about their daily lives; Jordan Kantor's reductivist renditions of news, cultural, and media events (plus a backlit X-ray of one of his paintings); and Trevor Paglen's photographic investigations of our government's covert operations, military secrecy, spying and the like. Once you've topped off your creative tank, you're welcome to head back down to the main floor for one bodaciously honkin' art party.
