Haines Gallery: Architectonic Forms - Darren Waterston; Lay it on the Line - Maurizio Anzeri
Comment by AB: In the main gallery, New York artist Darren Waterston combines decorative and architectural elements reminiscent of Arts & Crafts and the Aesthetic Movement with mysterious almost mystical paintings that look more like ominous aftermaths than anything else. In the project room, Italian artist Maurizio Anzeri slices and dices vintage postcards and landscape photographs, either partitioning them with superimposed lines or overlaid string. Good show on both counts. Go see.

Robert Koch Gallery: Alex Webb - La Calle
Comment by AB: Survey of photographs taken in Mexico between 1978-2007. People, places and plenty of feeling, up close and intimate. Also available at the show is Alex Webb's recently released monograph on the same subject, La Calle: Photographs from Mexico.

Fraenkel Gallery: Richard Learoyd
Comment by AB: Stunning larger-than-life portraits, nudes and still-lifes. Photographs are sometimes said to be "almost as good as being there." These are practically better than being there.
